🏉 Rugby Fundamentals
Catching, passing, running, movement, coordination and teamwork.
Fun, friendly rugby skills and fundamentals for children. A relaxed place to learn the basics, build confidence and enjoy being active.
LEARN • PLAY • GROW | No experience required | Boys & Girls welcome
No previous rugby experience is needed. Children can come along, have fun and learn at their own pace.
Passing, catching, movement, coordination, handling and the fundamentals that help children progress.
The aim is to give children a positive introduction to rugby, with the option of progressing to local rugby clubs when they are ready.
My name is Mark, and I have a real passion for rugby and for helping children develop through sport. I played rugby with a local club when I was younger, and that early experience gave me a lasting connection with the game.
I have worked with primary-aged children for around 7 years, giving me valuable experience in creating positive, engaging environments where children can learn, develop confidence and enjoy being active.
I also coach at a local rugby club, where I have gained practical coaching experience and continued to develop my knowledge through rugby coaching and additional rugby training.
I wanted to create Roslin Rugby Fundamentals because I believe every child should have the chance to experience rugby in a fun, welcoming environment — whether they have played before or are picking up a rugby ball for the very first time.
Roslin Rugby Fundamentals is about giving children the opportunity to learn, play and grow through rugby fundamentals — building skills, coordination, confidence and a love of being active.
It is not intended to replace local rugby clubs. For children who want to take their rugby further, I would be delighted to see the programme act as a positive pathway into local clubs when they are ready.
The initial focus is on children's sessions, with the programme designed to grow as demand develops.
Initial sessions are planned around children approximately ages 2–8, with groups adapted by age and ability.
A regular weekend session is being considered as the main starting point.
A weekday evening session may be added if there is enough local interest.

Roslin Rugby Fundamentals is not a drop-off activity. Parents and guardians are not expected to leave children at the session.
A parent or guardian must remain pitch-side for the full duration of the session and remain responsible for their child before, during and immediately after the session.
This means parents or guardians are available if their child needs reassurance, assistance, a toilet break or needs to leave the session for any reason.
If you have any concern about the safety or wellbeing of a child, please speak to the Child Wellbeing & Protection Officer as soon as possible.

Parents and guardians should provide accurate contact details, emergency contact information and details of any specific requirements when registering their child.
Parents and guardians should also tell us about any information that may affect their child's safe participation in a session.
We expect children, parents, guardians and coaches to treat one another with respect. Bullying, discrimination, threatening behaviour or inappropriate conduct will not be accepted.
We want every child to feel welcome, included and able to enjoy taking part regardless of their experience or ability.
Photos or videos of children will only be used in line with the permissions provided by a parent or guardian.
Parents and guardians should speak to the coach if they have any concerns about photography, filming or the use of images at a session.

If a parent or guardian has concerns about an image, post or social media content relating to their child, please contact us as soon as possible.
